December Countdown- Day 5

Day 5:

P1110977

Our December daily activities are going great!  Today we made and played with Gingerbread Playdough!  I had bought some cookie cutters and mini pans for this activity last year, but never got around to making it.  I found the idea on Pinterest and it took me to this blog.  Here’s the recipe from that blog.  There are also really great pics of the process there too!

Gingerbread Playdough
 Ingredients
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp orange extract {optional}

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan whisk together dry ingredients. Next mix in the water, oil, and orange extract and stir until a thick batter is formed. Cook the mixture over low/medium heat until a thick dough forms. Turn out onto parchment paper and knead until smooth. Makes about 2 cups of dough.

It took longer to measure out the ingredients than it did to actually make it.  A lot easier than I had envisioned it to be.  Like on the blog I borrowed this from, I am going to make a batch for a gift.  Next year even more!

Here’s the kids and some of their creations…

I had imagined that after an hour of playing with it that it would dry up a little, but much to my surprise it was just as soft as when they had started.  So I packed it up in these cute tins until next time.  (Purchased at Walmart for $1.00 each.)

For anyone needing something new and festive this weekend, you should give this playdough a try.

XOXO,

TA
