Halloween Felt Circle Banner

Here’s a quick Halloween Decor idea to do with kids!!!

What you will need:

orange, black and white or cream felt

sewing machine

thread color of your choice (I used a very light tan that matched my cream felt.)

First, trace all different sizes of circles onto your felt.   Then cut them all out.

My 4 and 7 yr old kiddos cut out all of the traced circles.  I actually winged it on the black, because I couldn’t find my fabric pencil.  One of  the great things about crafts with kids is that it looks like kids have helped do it. Our circles were far from perfect, even my black ones.  I did have to do a little trimming here and there but, pretty much left them as is:)

Then lay them all out and layer them until you’re happy with the variety.

Being that felt is pretty thick, I pinned all of them together to help them not slide while they were being sewn.  I just used a straight stitch… I have no idea what the width was.  I am not a master sewer.  Yet!!

Then I used some regular tape to hang it.  And now we have a wonderful Halloween Decoration for our mantel.  It only took a couple of hours from start to finish.  So Easy!!!!

I can’t believe it’s October…

Wow!! The past month and a half have flown by!!  I have to say that it has been very overwhelming…  with the kids starting school and extra curricular activities along with Drew being out-of-town… a lot!!   I seem to be getting through the days with a “just one day at a time” attitude. (And lots of caffeine!) For those who know me, that’s not how I usually roll.  I am a planner!!!  Probably to a fault.   I do not do the ‘fly by the seat of my pants’ thing very well.  Although, things aren’t really calming down, we seem to be getting into the groove.  Thank goodness!!

I have always told new moms or anyone who will listen to my parenting advice, “that in order to be the best parent that you can be… You must take care of YOU!!”  I really do believe this.  I think that when we find balance in our lives, we are able to give the best part of us to our relationships.  (Friends, Spouses, Family, Children, Co-workers, etc.)  I think it’s great advice… that I SUCK at doing myself!!   I think that this is probably true with a lot of stay-at-home moms.  Our entire day is centered around our children!  Not that we don’t love them and enjoy our time with them.  But we need an outlet!  I think this goes for the working moms too… you also need an outlet outside of your family and work.

So, I decided that I should finally practice what I preach….

I am a very creative person.  I really like to make things with my hands.  I have pretty much dabbled in it all.  Drawing, painting, sewing, scrapbooking, crafting, crocheting, sidewalk chalking, coloring, school project assisting… That’s all I can come up with for now:)  But my new-found hobby is Knitting!  There is this cute yarn store, I went and checked out one day… next to the Ice Cream shop;)  The customer service was excellent!!  I left there wanting to learn how to knit!!   So, I signed up for a class and am now almost done with my first project.  YAY!!  It took me about an hour to start feeling comfortable, it was very awkward.  (It’s a totally different feeling to use both hands opposed to just one, like when crocheting).  It is also a great, productive thing to do while watching TV with the hubby!  Here’s my 1st project… I need to “felt” it, add some fabric to the inside and a zipper.  Then I will have a fabulous new Clutch!!  I am really enjoying it and looking forward to my next class!

(I will post a pic of the finished product soon!)

In addition to my new knitting hobby, I have also begun to workout.  I am so unbelievably out of shape.  Go figure since I haven’t worked out in 12+ years.  I don’t really care about the weight on the scale.  However, after 3 kids, there are some areas that need some toning. LOL!  Plus I am pretty sure I would not be able to keep up with Baylee running around the block.  Paramedics would probably need to be called!!  I have always said that my 30s will be about getting healthy!!  Next goal:  Give up Soda Pop!!!!

I am trying to do what I tell others is so important for them to do!!  Even with a four-year old boy who is testing my patience more frequently these days, and a 21 mo. old girl who has decided to not sleep through the night anymore… I am feeling the balance!!  I go to bed at night feeling more peaceful.

Now, if I could just get better at blogging!!!

PS: I am hoping to have a website up and running by the first of the year.  I would love to offer some inspiration to my fellow crafters out there!!!  I will let you know when we’re getting closer.  My dear friend, Gabe is helping me get it designed.  I can’t wait to see it finished!!!
